Kendall Wanderers 'C' 0 - 4 Coastal United

Kendall C slipped to their first league defeat of the season, as BSSL Division 3N new boys UNations FC ran out comfortable winners at Veterans Field in Waltham on Saturday afternoon.

UNations started much the brighter, and seemed to be winning all the 50/50 challenges. They were a powerful side, with lots of pace up top. The hosts did, however, leave big gaps in behind for Kendall to exploit. Wanderers slowly came to grips with the game, and were unlucky not to open the scoring through Dion Bakis (Dion is new to the club and is really making an impact in the C squad).

Dion rose well for a corner on the quarter hour mark, and headed the ball for the far corner of the net, only to be cleared off the line. From that clearance UNations opened the scoring with a well-worked goal from back to front.

UNations struck again five minutes later. After scoring the opener, their confidence grew, and one of their midfielders dribbled uncontested from the half way line to the edge of the Kendall area before unleashing a low, driven that arrowed straight to the bottom left-hand corner of Steve Gage’s net.

Tony Touma came close to responding five minutes later when he rounded the keeper, but the right-back did very well to make a challenge to prevent Tony from finding an empty net. Kendall President Jarrod Burton came even closer shortly before the break when he unleashed a fierce shot only to see it fire wide of the far post. HT score 2-0

Kendall responded well early on in the second half, and were dominating possession for the first ten minutes. Touma again came close, but this time he was denied by the post. He made an excellent run to get in behind the defence, saw the advancing keeper was in no-mans land, and with a looping effort he found the crossbar.

Just as you thought Kendall might get back in the game, UNations struck again. This time it was a long free kick, which was played in from right to left. No Kendall player competed for the ball, and the UNations man could hardly believe his luck to bundle the ball home from three yards.

This was a real sucker punch for Kendall. UNations added one more with a fantastic curled effort from the edge of the area. Ivan Reilly was to be denied by the crossbar five minutes before the finish with a thumping effort from a 30-yard free.

A frustrating day for the Cs, leaving a lot to work to do at training on Wednesday. However, we will be looking to bounce back next weekend against Washington Square FC.
