Kendall Wanderers Over 40s 4 - 0 Nashoba Masters

Kendall Over 40s took the field on a bright sunny morning with 16 strong, slightly fit, and somewhat paunchy players.

The team consisted of Kendall stalwarts, Hall of Famers, and some complete newcomers; all were very welcome.

The opposition in this OTHSL O40 Division 6C clash were Nashoba Masters, and the game kicked off with a slightly nervous Kendall clearing the ball at every opportunity.

Things settled down eventually, and after some pressure a Kendall corner was driven in superbly by Dennis Cunningham. Barry Roche lost his marker, charged towards the ball, and swung his trusty right foot in an effort to score the historic first Kendall Over 40s goal.

Unfortunately, he completely scuffed his shot, trapped the ball instead of volleying it, and, as Roche sat on the ground wondering what went wrong, Brian McCormack followed up for a tap in. 1-0 to the Filthy Forties.

Further first-half goals from Roche, Michael McCormack and Colin Hamell (at the wrong end) gave Kendall a comfortable 3-1 half time lead.

The second half was full of attacking verve from both teams, but only one more Kendall goal was registered before the full-time whistle.

There were good Kendall debuts from Noel McDonough and Rick McCann, while Henry and Mario showed lots of promise that bodes well for the rest for the season.

The Kendall back four were very solid, and they would have had a clean sheet to celebrate had it not been for that Hamell OG. It was a Royal mistake by Hamell, and there were even some accusations that the Navan native was acting the maggot.
