Buoyed by a impressive inaugural 6-1 win, the Over 30Bs hit the road for the long trip to Dartmouth. Various commitments, and high gas prices perhaps, meant that we had a skeleton crew of 13. Not necessarily a bad thing for a team with an emphasis on playing time for all.

Our opponents were a bunch of short and stocky types, but the bigger obstacle turned out to be the pitch. Heavy overnight rain meant large puddles in many locations (thankfully, no Real Madrid kit), and this somewhat inhibited our smooth passing game. Nonetheless we opened brightly and were camped in the opponents half right away. Ryan Hilton in right midfield was given lots of time and space behind the defenders and put Killer through for a decent finish that was called back for offside. Tomislav in the center of midfield was also sliding some nice passes through to the front men but the keeper was alert to the danger.

The pressure has to tell eventually and a great floated cross from the right by Tomislav was met at the back post by Stig Bjornebye (no, not that one), rising between two defenders to plant a bullet of a header back across the keeper into the corner. Great football all round. Just before half-time, Ryan doubled the lead when he took advantage of some puddle-induced confusion to smash home a shot from close range, taking a muddy bath in the process.

As in last week’s game, we came out for the second half eager to add to the lead. Gerry Daly and Monty were sweeping everything up at the back, so Gerry came up for a series of corners where a number of corer takers tried and failed to follow instructions and “find Gerry’s head”. After about 8 attempts Gerry and his head gave up. Lar in goal was also suffering from boredom and so took a couple of hairy sorties from his box that didn’t go according to plan. He and his defence we able to react however to snuff out any danger and he hardly had a save to make.

The chances continued to come thick and fast. Hesitations in the Dartmouth defence allowed both Ryan and then Andrew Scheufele to ghost in at the back post from midfield and poke goals home. 4-0. Killer, after a volley of abuse for shooting instead of passing, decided to square one to Omar just outside the box. He duly smashed it in off the crossbar. The rout was finished by Dennis Cunningham, who rolled back the years by cutting inside from the left, on to his favored right foot, and drilling a low shot into the far corner.

A final score of 6-0. It could have been more, but we’ll save the goals as we have sterner tests to come.
