Married versus Singles Game Photos

Dan Murray, a friend of John O'Toole and Phil Keane's was kind enough to come to the the club's annual Married vs Singles game on Saturday and take a ton of quality photos of the action. The game finished up 2-2 after 90mins and went straight into a penalty shootout where the Singles robbed it 3-1 in penalty kicks.

Practice Match Tomorrow at Ceylon Park

Hello men,

We have a permit for Ceylon park tomorrow, until 2pm, and so are going to use it to continue preparation for the rapidly approaching start of season. All club members welcome; managers may decide to divide up the teams or mix them, and may throw in a bit of training as well, so come down to Ceylon Park , Ceylon St, Dorchester at 11am tomorrow.

It would also help our cause in getting pitches if everyone made an effort to get back to the Banshee for a few pints afterwards. If they do not get us pitches in Boston for the 2nd half of the season, our options will be to drive to Fort Devens (52 miles from Boston) or Lancaster ( 49 miles from Boston) - it is yere choice.

Thanks, Donal

This weeks training and Champions League Final viewing.

The Over 30 A's have a make-up game scheduled for this Wednesday, May 25 during our normal training time in Melrose. Players will still be able to have a kickaround off to the side or behind the goals that night if they wish, but we will use Monday May 23 as our club training night for this upcoming week.

The club is planning to watch the Champions' League final on Saturday May 28 at the Banshee. We are looking into getting the upstairs room (where the AGM and past club events have been held), which has 3 TV's and plenty of seating so that everyone can get comfortable for what should be a cracker of a match. Kickoff is at 2:45, but we'll plan on getting there around 2 so that there is ample time for pre-match drinking and analysis. Get on over to the Banshee next Saturday if you can, as I said it should be a hell of a match and it'll be a good excuse to knock some pints down on a Saturday afternoon.

Weekend Results

It's cup weekend and with all Kendall teams eliminated over 30s was the only action this weekend. The A team had their game postponed and the B team filled their boots against Darthmouth FC winning 6-0 against 10 men, with goals from Brendan, Omar, Noel (3) and - depending oh whether you listen to Denis or the 2 goalward deflections that carried his corner in - O.G./Denis

Weekend results from May 14th & May 15th

Another tough weekend for the club as the A team recorded a 1-6 loss with a skeleton squad away to Blackbeard FC, Declan getting the consolation for the Kendall. Kendall B had a mountain to climb without a full team against league high fliers MPS and went down 7-0. The only bright note on Saturday was the C team winning 2-1 with goals from Noel and Mario followed by a backs to the wall defensive performance.

Sundays over 30's action saw Kendall A team get their first point of the season with a 0-0 draw and the B team pulled off a heroic 2-2 draw with only 8 players, Dennis getting a brace for the Bs.

Training/Kick-around now available on Mondays also

The club has added a second training night in Melrose, Monday nights from 9-11 PM starting this upcoming Monday May 9. Mondays will be in addition to our regular Wednesday night training, and could consist of either a general club scrimmage or regular team training, depending upon how each team's managers want to treat the session. This will give everyone in the club a second opportunity to get out there and get a touch on the ball, based on our recent results I would say we could all use the extra practice time. Let's get out there and get some good runs in on Mondays and Wednesdays, and make use of all the field time the club has to offer.

May 2nd, 2011

Weekend Results from April 30th & May 1st, 2011

A club record has been set this past weekend for Kendall Wanderers FC with a total of 5 teams posting defeats...

Not only is it important for players to show up for training on a Wednesday night, you should be trying to get in at least one more night of training on your own - be it going out jogging, running, swimming or whatever...You need to be in shape to compete at this level.

Even more important is an individual's commitment to their team. Most teams really struggled to get 11 players this weekend and they all have rosters of well over 20 players each.
It's understandable for people who are out of town, working, have parental duties, etc., etc., but anyone who is around and available to play should be showing up for games.
All the starved of players and the club was starved of results...

Let's all get out there this week and try and get our teams back on the right track! We're more than capable of saving our seasons if we all put in the effort!

Kendall Wanderers Abú!

Weekend Results from April 23rd & 24th, 2011

Another grim weekend for the Kendall with 4 games played and 4 games lost...
The results were as follows:

  • A Team - Lost 1-0
  • B Team - Lost 3-2
  • C Team - Lost 2-0
  • Over 30s B Team - Lost 3-1
  • Over 30s A Team game was called off...
Hopefully all the teams can rally at training on Wednesday night and avenge these defeats next weekend.

Weekend's Results - April 16th & 17th

Committee News - Club Dues, New B Team Management and Bowling Night

Club Dues

Lads, it's that time of year again when your club dues are to be paid...
  • All Players(BSSL/OTHSL): Choice of $100/half season OR $180 for full season paid in one installment.
  • Players that play both BSSL & OTHSL: $260 for full season.
  • All new players: $25 registration fee due by April 23. This $25 covers the league registration fee. If you decide to become a full member of the club and play this season, the $25 will be deducted from your dues total.
These dues cover all your training and match costs for the rest of the season. It's really a good deal compared to what players in other teams in the leagues have pay. Please give your dues/registration to your team managers asap. There will also be a player on each team appointed to help collect dues very soon. Payment may be made in the form of cash or cheque made payable to Kendall Wanderers FC.

New B Team Management

The committee would like to announce the new B Team management panel of Jesse Brown, John Crowley and Mick Murphy.
Thanks for stepping up, lads.

Sacco's Candlepin Bowling this Sunday 4/17

As an early season "get to know yer clubmates" event, there are lanes booked at Sacco's in Davis Square, for 8.30pm Sunday night - this was the earliest I could get them, after their leagues finish. We will meet there for a few pints at 8pm, put together a few teams, then get bowling when the lanes open up. Bring along Wives, Girlfriends, Significant others and "Just friends" for a few pints and a bit of craic. It was a very good night out the last time we went. They have a Flatbread pizza place and a bar with an excellent beer menu. Check out their page on Yelp!

Facebook Incorporation to the Website

Lads, I have begun to utilize the massive power of Facebook now on kendallwanderers.com. You may notice Facebook comment boxes etc. around the site from now on, which will allow you to share you thoughts/feelings with the rest of the club on any given topic. I've changed the color scheme of the comment boxes etc. from the standard white and blue Facebook colors to a darker scheme to fit in with our current website theme so keep an eye out for them. Here's the first implementation of the comment box - Noel's match report from the weekend. Click here for the report. Commenting on the reports etc. around the site is strongly encouraged, just to get a bit of banter going throughout the club again. Also, making comments and keeping the 'Post to Facebook' box checked, will post a link to the page you commented on to your Facebook profile and generate more traffic to our website and club, helping it grow by attracting new players.

I hope you all like and use this new feature. Feel free to let me know what you think below.

Congratulations, Coffeys!

The club would like to congratulate Noel, Eimear and Clodagh Coffey on the arrival of their latest family member - Ciaran Frank Coffey. We all hope that the wee man gets his mothers speed, strength and skill...we've never seen Eimear play soccer, but she can't be any worse than Noel!
Seriously though, we're all delighted to hear that mother and baby are doing well. Great stuff!

On a side note, check out Noel's match report for the debut game of the Over 30s B Team against Norfolk FC where they won 6-1. It's a craicer - Click here.

  • C Team - Won 3-1
  • Over 30s A Team - Lost 1-0

Additional Week 1 Round Up Entries...

For Kendall A vs MIT match report, Click here. Thanks goes out to Keano for taking the time type up this one. Traditionally, match reports were written by a different player on each team every week. Here they got the chance to express their thoughts on the game as well as bust their team mates balls from time to time for the entire club's amusement. It would be great if all the managers select a report writer every week or even if the players stepped up asked to write one themselves, so lads, let your managers know if you'd like to write one for a certain game, then email it to them and they'll get it to the club P.R.O. or Assistant P.R.O.. Cheers!

Over 30 A vs Over 30 B "Friendly" ends in Stalemate
A robust and cantankerous encounter between the 2 Kendall Over 30 teams was played in bright sunshine in Waltham, this morning. The final score was 0-0. Managers Johnny "Killer" Kilpatrick and Mickey Mac were left with plenty of food for thought, and reminded everyone that there are plenty of places up for grabs. As noted, the Kendall Football Club has now grown to five teams, with the addition of the new O30s team. Anyone who was not there & is still interested in playing should contact the managers through the website - kendallwanderers.com

This Week's Training
Training for all Kendall players is scheduled for this Wednesday at 9 PM at Pine Banks Park in Melrose. Try to arrive there by 8:45 so we can all be laced up and prepared to start promptly at 9. Address for directions is 2 Pine Banks Park Road Melrose MA 02176.

Results for Saturday April 3rd

An unlucky start to the season for our A team, who lost 0-1 today. They battled hard against a strong MIT side and stronger gale in the 2nd half but unfortunately conceded a goal via a back post header from a corner about 20 mins to go in the 2nd half. There were a lot of solid performances throughout the team and we can be sure the A's will come back strong next week against Cambridge Arsenal.

Both of our B & C teams had their first games of the season cancelled today.

Any players that are eligible to play Over 30's football this year are encouraged to come to our pre-season friendly of Over 30 A vs Over 30 B tomorrow morning. For details, see post below. (To be eligible, players need not be 30 or above right now, but must turn 30 by the end of 2011).

Over 30s A vs Over 30s B "friendly" this Sunday in Waltham 4/3

Kick-off is at 9.00am this Sunday at Veterans Field, 410 Forest St., Waltham. We need a good turnout to get ready for our first league games, so all players should make an effort to attend.

Training/Try-outs this Wednesday in Melrose 3/30

Wednesday March 30: 9 PM Pine Banks Park. Map/Directions.

Indoor sessions are finished for the season. BSSL teams first league games are next Saturday April 2. OTHSL teams first league games are Sunday April 10.

Training/Try-outs this Sunday in Waltham 3/27

The Kendall will continue with outdoor training/tryouts this Sunday (3/27) at Veterans Fields in Waltham, from 9-11:30 AM. We will have two fields available and will have intrasquad scrimmages to give the managers a further chance to evaluate potential players. I strongly encourage all players who can make this session to attend, the season starts in just over a week and the managers need to see who is available to them for the upcoming season.

We will have indoor as regularly scheduled at MLK Elementary Thursday night (3/24), from 8-10 PM. Come out for a run and to get a touch on the ball, the more practice the better at this time of year.

Season start is less than 10 days away boys, let's make sure we are doing it on the front foot. The club puts out a decent bit of money to make these indoor and outdoor sessions available for us, we should all make the effort to get to training and take advantage of it.

March 23rd, 2011

Training/Try-outs tonight in Melrose 3/23

The Kendall will have outdoor training/tryouts for all players this Wednesday March 23 at Pine Banks Field in Melrose from 9-11 PM. Please make your best effort to be there, the managers are currently working on selecting their respective teams and it is invaluable to see players out on the pitch so that they know who is available. The season starts April 2, and the more time we all have out on the field the better positioned we will be for silverware this season.

March 17th, 2011

St. Patrick's Day Indoor 3/17

Just to let you all know, even though it's St. Paddy's Day, indoor IS still on tonight at MLK. If you haven't been there before use the door on the right at the back of the building, go up the stairs and the gym will be on your right. For map/directions, click here.

Oh, and Happy St. Patrick's Day from all at Kendall Wanderers FC!

Kendall Wanderers A Team Training Tonight 3/15

For players interested in playing for the A team this season, Shane and Phil will be having a training session on Tuesday night at 7:30 at Carson Beach in South Boston. Training will consist of a run around Castle Island followed by some more training on the beach. Plan to meet at the parking lot across from Moakley Park on the beach side. Players should bring running shoes as well as football boots. Again, this is for players that are interested in playing for the A team this season.

March 15th, 2011

Outdoor Session this Saturday 3/19

The Kendall will have our first official outdoor training/scrimmages/tryouts this Saturday (3/19) at noon at Veterans Fields in Waltham. Here's the address, click it for map/directions: Veterans Fields, 410 Forest St., Waltham, MA, 02452. The club has at least two fields rented and will be having intrasquad scrimmages, as well as playing against an additional BSSL team. Please bring a light and dark shirt with you, and $5 to help cover the cost of the fields.

As of right now this is the only outdoor training we have set up, so everyone should make an effort to be there. The managers will be there to evaluate players for their team selections.

For players interested in playing for the A team, Shane and Phil will still be running the training session tomorrow night, but the Saturday morning session at Moakley will not go forward as planned, it will be replaced by the noontime training in Waltham.

The committee will continue looking for additional outdoor pitch time before the season starts on April 2, but as of now this is the only outdoor time we have booked.

February 7th, 2011
